Design Thinking A Catalyst for Classroom Change

Design Thinking A Catalyst for Classroom Change Design thinking is a powerful way to teach students how to become thoughtful, engaged problem-solvers and future leaders. Design thinking is a concept that originated in the 1960s, when it first emerged in the field of architecture design (hence the name). The idea centers on employing a unique process to identify and solve problems through core steps: empathizing with our target audience, defining the problem, ideating possible solutions, prototyping a solution, and then testing that solution to find ways to iterate and improve. In recent years, design thinking has caught fire among educators who understand just how much we need to prepare our students for an uncertain future. While we cultivate problem-solving skills among our students, we must also cultivate problem-finding abilities. And while we can encourage our students to achieve excellence, we can also coach them to think about how their efforts can serve others in their community. Design thinking is a powerful way to accomplish this. In its focus on defining and solving problems, design thinking reminds us to put the person we’re serving at the center of our decision making. In the classroom, we can teach students to become engaged citizens and thoughtful leaders â€" not just by expressing themselves and their opinions but by listening and learning to those around them, and developing something to improve their lives. As educators, we can also invigorate our learning communities if we consider ourselves designers, dedicated to building off small prototypes that are meant to improve the experience of our learners. So how can you begin integrating design thinking into your classroom? Build first. You don’t have to start the process from the top with interviews or observations. I have found students new to the design mindset will get impatient with the “thinking” component. Instead, start by presenting a challenge for your students and ask them to “build” a solution to it. For example, you can always ask your students to quickly prototype a new layout for your classroom, or you can challenge them to create a new organizational system for classroom supplies. After they build a prototype, have some of your students observe how others are using the new layout or system. That’s when you’ll incorporate the empathy-driven aspect, and you’ll also get them thinking about how they might iterate their designs based on how they see others responding to them. Tap into regularly scheduled activities. While I love a six-week long design project that integrates with my learning standards, you don’t need to jump straight into adding design thinking into your lesson plans. Look at your students’ schedules and determine if there may be an opportunity to evaluate or improve. Perhaps you always feel rushed during the morning process of getting students settled and starting class. Could they help design a different morning routine? Or, if you have a holiday like Valentine’s Day coming up, engage students in empathy-driven design to create a gift to take home to a family member or friend. Center projects around student passions. Teachers consistently design for their students. Invoke design thinking by exploring what makes students excited. For instance, if your kids are excited about an upcoming class guest, challenge them to think about what would make that guest enjoy their experience. Have them prepare questions to ask the guest before he/she arrives to inform your planning, role play or storyboard scenarios for how the class could interact with the guest, prototype how you will set up the room, and finally, ask the guest for feedback after the visit. Alternatively, maybe library time is a highlight of their day. Can they deploy their emerging empathic abilities to design a recommended reading list for younger students? Keep it simple. You don’t need a huge budget, 3D printers, or fancy supplies to incorporate design thinking into your classroom. In fact, you can amplify the creativity you ask of your students by giving them everyday office supplies to prototype their design solutions. Some of the most creative and interesting design solutions I’ve seen students develop have started as models made out of paperclips, post-it notes, and crayons. Tap into the design thinking community. There is an expansive design thinking community online, which offers many great resources. Here are just a few to get you started: Stanford d.school offers an array of toolkits and starter projects for you and your students to get acquainted with design methodologies and mindsets. The Teacher's Guild by IDEO is a community of teacher-designers who collaborate on design challenges relevant to improving student experience. Leadership+Design offers empowering learning experiences for educators who want to develop the habits, skills, and mindsets of designers and innovators. You can also follow the #dk12chat conversation on Twitter. While exploring new teaching styles can be challenging, design thinking is both invigorating and liberating for all involved. And the best part: We can have a lasting impact on our children if we cultivate the habits, mindsets, and skill sets that they can learn through this process.   How do you feel about design thinking? Share with us on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. The goal setting process contains the following five steps. A manager is set the goals of every individual twice in a year. The goals are related to employees experience and work ability. The goal setting process is owned only by the managers of the organisation. The goals are varied for each and every individual. There is no standard procedure to set the goals for employees those who are having same ability and experience. No one has the authority to reject and redo the goals . Terms of Reference: How to provide the good satisfaction for their clients? If the staffs need some training or support to the output of their work then the company provides them (Beck, 2000) to get an excellent output. The company identifies the talent of an individual, skills set, time consuming, creativity of their work and it encourages them to participate in company contribution, give an appropriate promotions, and give them Bonus, rewards, gift voucher and incentives. The company considers the individual work to be meaningful, valuable and worthwhile. The company pays their pay to the staff in hierarchy orders. The company assumed that it provided sufficient requirements to create job satisfaction (Latham, 2006). Overview of the organisation: The Overview of the performance analysis shows, the quality of the deliverables, customer satisfaction with the company deliverables and employees satisfaction. As a result we can easily find there are some major issues existing within the organisation. The analysis begins with this type of issues against motivation. Issues (Motivational) Vs Organisation: The issues of this organisation are analysed in a motivational point of view. The Human Resources Department met their employees to investigating their problem and needs. They did the analysis to find out the solution to improve their company. And also they find the issues of low productivity. The main reason of low productivity is employees and clients dissatisfaction. The employees are moving frequently from this company to other. The following questions are raised during the analysis. Why the employees are resigning their jobs? What is the reason for looking new opportunity in another company? What is the main reason for delayed deliverables? Why the company facing the slow down process stage? How to handle the staff more effectively? How to motivate the staff to come up from the slow down process? How could increase our working environment? What type of contribution could be need for the company development? How to increase the company profit? Howe ver, the company motivates their staff using the motivational terms, if these terms are not work properly then the company growth, profits, benefits will slow down. As a result some of the talented staff wants to resign their jobs, some of the staffs are looking good opportunity in other companies and some of the staffs are not interested to work within this company. Because of this the company productivity will slow down again and again by recruiting new people to work and provide the appropriate training to them. These processing time and cost of recruitment process will give the time delay to deliver the deliverables of the company. It gives the major misunderstanding with clients. After that the Human Resources Department went to deeply analyse the slowdown process of the company. There are so many factors of needs, come out from the staffs. The Human Resources Department find out the fundamental needs are not fulfilled by the company and the performance goal setting process was not satisfied the employees. Many of the employees are discouraged by their fundamental needs and goal setting process. As a result of this analysis we can easily identifies the importance of the motivation. When the people join an organization, they bring certain needs with them that will affect on job performance. Some of these needs are developed and explained in motivational theories. In addition motivation is affected by peoples perceptions, including their feelings in different situations. Managers should spend considerable time to motivate their employees. A well motivated work can provide better productivity, good reputation, product quality etc. If the same work cannot be motivated it will affect the productivity, reputation etc. Maslow (1908-1970) theories of needs, Clayton Paul Alderfer (1972) of ERG Theories, J.Stacy Adams in Equity theory, Edward Chase Tolman (1886-1961) of Expectancy theory, Edwin A. Locke (1968, 1975) in Goal setting theory and the American ps ychologist Frederic Herzberg (1966, 1968) Job enrichment Two-Factors theories are the developed motivational theories. We can analyse the fundamental things of motivation about this company like how can we motivate the staff to work harder, or smarter? by using the following motivation theories Maslow (1908-1970) theories of needs and goal setting theory Edwin Locke (1968, 1975; Latham and Yukul, 1975). Motivational Factors (Issues): Following are the 11 major factors mean that the Motivational issues which are analysed and determined by Human Resource department. Salary, rewards Security, freedom Personal needs self-esteem needs racisms, Freedom of enquiry, expression Time Management, Responsibility Prestige, promotion, appreciation, recognition, Identification of individual Health, Insurance, Company Policy Supervisory style, communication relationship Profitable Ratio Feedback controls Goal setting process The above factors are mainly related to Maslow (1908-1970) theories of needs and goal setting theory Edwin Locke (1968, 1975; Latham and Yukul, 1975). Application and Basic concepts of Motivational theories: 1. Maslow Hierarch theories of needs (1908-1970) Abraham Harold Maslow suggested (1908-1970 P242) Motivation aims to resolve the confusion between drives and motives according to the Maslow the people are motivated by the hierarchy needs. Biological needs Example of Food, water, rest and oxygen, sunlight, sexual expression and basic pay. Safety needs Example of Comfort, tranquillity, freedom from fear, for shelter, order, for security. Affiliation needs Example of affection, love, relationships Esteem needs Example of confidence, achievement, self esteem, prestige, recognition, attention and appreciation. Self-actualization needs the development of our full potential Satisfaction needs Freedom of enquiry and expression 2. Goal setting theory Edwin Locke (1968, 1975; Latham and Yukul, 1975) Goal theory has established four main propositions which are well -supported by research Challenging goals lead to higher levels of performance than simple an d unchallenging goals. Difficult goals are also called stretch goals because they encourage us to try harder (unless the goal is beyond our level of ability). Specific goals lead to higher levels of performance than vague goals such as try harder or do your best. It is easier for us to adjust our behaviour when we know precisely what is required of us, and goal specificity avoids confusion. A popular acronym states that goals should be SMART: specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-related. Participation in goal setting particularly when this is expected, can improve performance by increasing commitment to those goals, but managerially assigned goals that are adequately explained and justified can also lead to high performance. Knowledge of results of past performance feedback is necessary for effective goal achievement. Feedback contains information and is also motivational. Critical analysis: The critical analysis starts with the result of HR management factors and employees feedback against the motivational theories. The analysis explains how the company issues (Motivational factors) are related to the motivational theories. Comparison between Maslow Hierarchy theories of needs with Motivational Factors of analysed organisation. Biological needs Factor 1(salary and rewards) and Factor 4 (self esteem needs) The company is not increasing the salary (basic pay) of the employees those who are having experience with good working ability. The company knows very well about their working skills and perfect output of their work. The Company forcing them to work hard and the employees are put their full effort in the work more effectively and constructively. But there are no any rewards. So, they are looking a good challenging company which can utilise their skills and talent with more salary and rewards. It clearly shows the company is not satisfied the biological needs of their employees by not increasing the salary based on their experience and performance. The basic pay is the one of the major component in salary. The experienced persons of the company didnt get any proper promotions and other needs like transport, food, vacations and leave etc based on their experience and skill sets. The company is not taking care of the employees self-esteem needs. Safety needs Factor 2 (Security, Freedom) Factor 8 (Health, Insurance, Company Policy) The employees expect the security of their job. But the company is not having any policies or rules to fulfil the security of jobs. The environment is not comfortable to work; it is look like fear able. It explains the employees are expecting the security of their job. The environment is not securable to work; it looks like fear able. The company rules and regulations are very good. But the company is not taking care of employees health. There are no company policies to their employees like health insurance, provident fund, retirement scheme etc. If the employee dies during the work time, the company could not provide anything like money or employment opportunity or anything else to their family. So the company is not satisfied the employees safety needs. Affiliation needs Factor 3 (personal needs) Whenever the company needs to satisfy their client requirements, the company send the employees to client location and there are no opportunities to do a work in offshore. By the way the employees are missing their family members, relatives and childrens. So, the company is not considering the employee personal needs (love needs). Affiliation needs are called love needs. Most of the company is not concentrate of these needs. So the company is not satisfied the employees affiliation needs. Esteem needs Factor 7 (Prestige, Appreciation, Recognition) The higher experienced employees are putting their high effort to produce a high grade on company deliverables on long period. And they are expecting their promotion, recognition, appreciation and the identification of individual for long time. But the company never consider their effort in work and due to some indirect reasons they are not getting these. They are not recognised by the company in a proper manner and it gives the prestige issue with other employees. Unlike being 18, 21-year olds have an abundance of responsibilities to themselves as they try to understand and develop their sense of self and self worth, but also the obligations they have being a member of a larger community. I am proud of my daughter who has recently talked to me about her depression that she has been silently suffering from for over 10 years and her struggles with self-harm. Since she’s coming up on her 21st birthday in September, she wanted to express some things that has tormented her since early childhood. Personal Statement on Nursing - 527 Words

In the corner of the small hospital room stood a shy little girl. â€Å"You shouldnt be in here, honey†, my mother said as she nudged me out of the room where my grandfather lay dying. At the time, I couldnt understand the enormity of the situation. Ignorant to what was happening around me, my innocent mind fled with curiosity. The beeping of the machines and the soft quick steps of nurses captivated my attention. I was fascinated with this strange new world. This is the moment that sparked my desire to become someone great; a nurse. As I grew, so too did my passion to learn all that I could about the profession and medicine. When I entered college I ecstatically enrolled in my first pre-nursing classes. I was more eager and inspired than ever before. One particular day stands out in my memory of my first year in college. At lunch, I headed to the farthest corner of the lunchroom, wishing more than anything to be left alone. Then, what do I know? A young man comes sauntering up to my table and asks to join me. I wanted to ask him to leave, but instead, I smiled and replied with a quiet, â€Å"Of course†. We began to chat about ourselves and before I knew it, the clouds above me began to drift away. Why Some Red Japanese Maples Have Green Leaves

Japanese maples (Acer palmatum) are a small ornamental tree much prized in the landscape. Several cultivars have been developed based on  native species, and the  ones used in landscaping are  chosen for their distinctive colors—bright green, dark  red, or reddish  purple. Red Trees That Turn Green It can come as something of a shock, then, when a tree we picked because of its color begins to change to another color over time. Japanese maples are one such tree in which this frequently happens. Usually, it is a red or purple cultivar that gradually begins  to transform into a green tree, and this can be disappointing if youve selected the tree specifically because of its color.   The Biology of Color Change in Japanese Maples To understand how a trees color can shift, you need to understand how horticulturists obtain those unusual colors in the first place. All true Japanese maples are variants of the sturdy green  Acer palmatum. If you happen to have one of these pure species types, theres almost no chance that your tree will change colors. To produce tree  cultivars with unusual  colors, horticulturists may begin with the original species root-stock, then graft on branches with different characteristics. (There are other ways in which tree cultivars can be created, but this is a common technique used for Japanese maples.)   Many tree cultivars  originally start as a genetic accident or an aberration that appeared on an otherwise normal tree.  If that aberration  was appealing, horticulturists  may then seek to propagate that mistake and create a whole line of trees that duplicate that unusual characteristic. Many trees with variegated  leaves or unique leaf colors or unusual fruits began their lives as sports, or genetic mistakes that were then deliberately cultivated through different methods, including grafting new branches onto hardy rootstocks. In the case of red or purple Japanese maples, branches from trees with desired colors are grafted onto hardier rootstocks that are more durable in the landscape.   On a  Japanese maple, harsh weather or other factors sometimes kill off the grafted branches, which are usually attached to the rootstock near ground level. When this happens, the new branches that sprout (sucker) up from the ground will have the genetic makeup of the original rootstock—which will be green, rather than red or purple. Or,  its possible that new branches may sucker up from below the graft in addition to the red-leaved branches that are grafted onto the tree. In this case, you may suddenly find yourself with a tree that has both green- and red-leaved branches.   How to Correct or Prevent the Problem You may be able to catch the problem before it becomes severe if you periodically inspect the tree and pinch off any small branches that appear below the graft line on the tree. This may result in a tree thats somewhat asymmetrical for a time, but steady work getting rid of the green branches sprouting from below the graft line will eventually return the tree to its desired color. Japanese maples, though, do not tolerate heavy pruning, and because this is a slow-growing tree, it takes patience over time to allow the tree to form a natural shape.   Should your tree lose all its grafted branches—as sometimes happens when Japanese maples are planted in the northern limits of their hardiness zone range—your tree cannot be returned to its red color. All branches that sucker up from below the graft will be green in color. You can either learn to love the green Japanese maple or replace the tree.

There are four crucial family factors that influence delinquency among children (Dhungana Sainju, 2016). These family factors include; post divorce marital conflict, maternal distress, economic hardship and parent-child relationships (Dhungana Sainju, 2016). Reading the novel, The Last of the Mohicans, I was actually able to appreciate Coopers work, as it was very interesting. I found the book was interesting because of the historical background and Cooper clearly portrayed the different values of two cultures.

Supply Governance Structures for Reverse Logistics Systems

Question: Describe about the Supply Governance Structures for Reverse Logistics Systems? Answer: Introduction The chosen company for this assignment is Starbucks and in this report we will be dealing with the outsourcing decision for this company that the product which are being outsourced for this company need to be added with the value added services for their customers or not. Starbucks is one of the leading companies in coffee. They are one of the expertises in beverage sector. In the last 20 years it is found that there are no changes in the company but they have developed themselves be it during the wars or the when economies of the countries were facing any downfall. The staffs of the company are mainly recognized due to their achievements. The work atmosphere of Starbucks is so good that the staffs always get motivation to give their best work. In Starbucks there is no official structure that the organization follows but the decisions which are made by the head authorities of the organization the staffs follow them without any question. The management also asks for feedback from thei r staffs. The main highlight of Starbucks is their principles and the supply strategy which they have adopted for their organization which will improve the confidence of their workers. Along with all this they have taken the approval of their customers regarding the products which they will be selling in their outlets and the customers will also come there to have the taste of the products sell by them. The strategy followed by Starbucks is a very slow and steady process and the diversity adopted by Starbucks is very pleasant for their customers. All this are adopted by Starbucks because like this they can keep a control in the market (Aitken, and Harrison, 2013). Decisions made to outsource the Starbucks service and products which will be adding value for their customers: The Coffee served by Starbucks is very well-known in the international market and also among the top products in the beverages sector. The main aim of Starbucks is to create a competitive and exclusive product for the market (Aitken, and Harrison, 2013).The process through which Starbucks makes their products shows that how they choose the raw materials for their products and along with that they buy the raw materials for their product from different countries like Africa, Asia and Latin America. The unroasted coffee is bought by Starbucks which they collect from a farm house then they refine that unroasted coffee according to their own way. After they refine the coffee accordingly then they pack it and store in the ware house and whenever required they use those for making their coffee or sell the coffee beans in the market for the customers to use it according to their way. The business done by Starbucks is not only done with the help outsourcing whereas they always guarantees that they will serve the best to their customers for that they always collect the best quality coffee beans for their customers (Lee, and Baker, 2011). The policy adopted by Starbucks is that they will target the place and the customers which will keep their company into existence within the customers and also give Starbucks the confidence so that they can get the number one position which will they will be getting if they implement new things in their outlets which will be attracting the customers towards their outlets (Nadeem, 2015). In every Starbucks outlet it has been found that to get the feedback from their customers they have adopted the card system where the customers will be writing about the experience which they will get after they will be visiting the outlet (Mishra, and Mahanty, 2015). Along with that the customers can also write there that if they want any changes in the outlet or in the product which they are having in the outlet and also they can mention if they want any changes in the ambience. As Starbucks is one of the well-known companies so they give warranties to their customers that they will try to bring changes or varieties as much they can. Starbucks has also made a rule that the products which they will be serving to the customers if not according to their satisfaction then they will prepare another for them until and unless the customers are satisfied with the products with which they are served. Figure-1- Satisfaction level of the Customers The Factors which are influencing the outsourcing decision of Starbucks: The main factors which are influencing the outsourcing decision of Starbucks is that the help which they are offering to the customers and along with that they will also entertain to their customers so that they can satisfy their customers with the passion which they have towards coffee. To satisfy the passion of the customers towards their coffee, Starbucks have to keep them organized so that they can fulfill the satisfaction level of their customers and for that they need to complete the work with the help of which they will attract their customers towards their outlets and products. The function performed by Starbucks is totally different from the functions which are being performed by other companies which will help them in producing the zeal which will help them to keep the good relationship with their customers (Sanchez Rodrigues, 2010). The main objective which is performed by Starbucks is their supply chain system which they need to operate in such a way that their products reach to their customers and also to their outlets. Starbucks has the habit of highlighting their promise which they make to the source from where they extract the raw materials and also buy and sell their products which they distribute worldwide (Fleming, and Konstantaras, 2014). A relation has been created by Starbucks with their distributors and cultivators that they always buy or take products directly from the farmers, which they cultivate in their fields. All this process which is done takes a lot of money but all this covers up with the fund they incur which they collect after selling their finished goods to their customers. A fixed cost has been allocated so that contract price does not fluctuate that much. As if the price fluctuates then it will create a lot of problems for the customers (Fleming, and Konstantaras, 2014). The funds which they have covers up all their family requirements and also the manufacturing requirements. Henceforth, all this also increases the hazards which are connected with the climate of the business as they can be biased and the cost problem can also be solved. The advertising done by the organization plays a very important role as it increases the sales of the goods and also incurs profit for the organization and also imple ment different types of schemes which will keep the organization rationalize and which will keep the cost of Starbucks in the top position (Fleming, and Konstantaras, 2014). Along with all this the organizations also have to keep into notice about the objectives that the organization is performing. The five performance objectives are- Quality-The quality of raw products which Starbucks are importing from international countries need to be of high quality. So, that they can mould the raw materials and deliver the best final product to their customers. The brand and image of the company depends a lot on the quality which the company is trying to maintain. Speed- The working speed of an organization, need to be very fast so that the purchasing and returning can be in minimal time. Especially, in those organizations when they are interacting with the customers on daily basis. If they work in their full speed then only they will be able to satisfy their customer needs. Speed internally helps the organization in their operations whereas externally helps in getting the satisfaction from their customers. Cost- Helps in understanding the market which will help in buying their raw materials from the international market. The technologies which they are using also have certain costs and the staffs who are working for them for them also the company has to bear the costs. Dependability- The outlet need to e open on correct time o that he customers do not have to wait for the shop to open and there should be minimal number of products that can go for out of stock for that they have to keep a check on regular intervals. There should the availability of parking system for the customer coming in their outlets. Flexibility- From time to time the company needs to introduce different varieties of product which will attract the customers towards them along with that they should have a wide range of variety of products and if any of the products is out of stock then they can easily get them. Along with all that they should have the ability to adjust large number customers in their area. The involvement of risks in the decision making process and also recommend the strategies to overcome the risks Few risks involved in the decision making operation process management are: When a product is being designed then it influences a lot during the modification and the evaluation policy (Kulkarni, and Gopakumar, 2014). When the final products are made then they can easily recognize the price through which the whole procedure has gone through and also the superiority of the products which are existing into the market and also providing a very good facility so that the organization can have a look into all this products so that the organization do not face any problem and it will also keep the unity among the organization and also in the products which they are modifying and brining into the market after doing a lot of development into the whole process(Research Methods in HRM 2014). All these processes are done because this will maintain all the development process which will help the company to keep their product into the market and also keep their product among the top products in the market in their sector. If the products do well in the market then it will increase the market share of the company which will also give profit to the company and also bring success for the company in the market. Starbucks has involved themselves in the business in such a way that the venture which they have adopted for their business i.e. the buying and cooking the best quality of coffee so that they can share this with their customers and along with that they have to improve themselves in such a way that in their products the customers gets the taste of the Italian espresso in the coffee which they are serving to their customers and also serve their customers all coffee related products which will improve the sale of the company totally in the indirect way which will be beneficial both for the customers and also for the company which they are providing in their branches and outlets (Browne, and Gomez, 2011). Another risks taken by the organization is of choosing the best place where they will be opening their outlet so that all the customers, who have their passion for coffee can easily reach to their outlets so that they can savor the taste of coffee and for that the company have to select the position of their outlet in the best position so that the customers can easily to those outlets without any difficulties. Along with all these the factories of Starbucks need to be in those places so that when they will be importing the raw materials for their companies from the international market and the raw materials can reach to their organization without any difficulties. If the raw materials do not reach to the organization then they will not be able to deliver their best product to their customers and then they will not be able to fulfill the satisfaction of their customers and this will lead to a negative feedback for the company and they cannot afford to do so (Deadrick, and Stone, 2014) . Another types of risks which they can find is the layout designs which is very mandatory for their organization as on that basis the overall structure of the company will depend (Peng,. and Chen, 2014). The policies and regulations adopted by the organization all need to be followed in the correct procedure so that they do not face any problem. The layout of the technologies also needs to be advanced so that the products which they are serving to their customers also need to be in different types of varieties (Browne, and Gomez, 2011). As a Coffee company Starbucks has the capability to bring effort and variety in the products which they are bringing in their products and along with that there is no fluctuations in the price of the products which they are producing (Deadrick, and Stone, 2014). Conclusion: In a nutshell it can be said that Starbucks is one of the companies which is identified as one of the best companies in the beverage sector in the international market. But along with this there is one important question and i.e. how they will follow all the rules and regulations which they need to follow to keep their organization organized and also keep everything in process. It is important for the operation manager of Starbucks to keep everything under control so that everything done by the organization is under control and all the process is covered up in a systematic way so that there is no error in the work process which will take the right decision so that the organization do not have to face any risks but then also if the organization has to face any risks then the company also should have the solutions with them which will help them in overcoming all the risks which is face by the company. It can be said that Starbucks is one of the company who outsource their products but all their products provides a good value to their customers which keep their customers satisfied with their products and all this helps Starbucks in making the right decision for the organization. A. 2nd minor proposition/premise Many other careers that are underpaid are considered Samaritans and these people are true role models, not athletes. A. Evidence Expert Testimony: Ryan Gray Philosophical Theory: Fsk’s Guide to Reality Historical Examples: Gandhi Statistics: Charles Barkley Logic: People who serve in their jobs by helping others do not get paid as much as professional athletes. They are not recognized for the hard work they do such as saving lives or providing education. B. Opposition of 2nd minor proposition/premise People may choose whomever they please to be their role model(s) even athletes. D. Evidence Expert Testimony: Timothy Bernstein Philosophical Theory: Freedom of Choice/Speech Historical Examples: Lance Armstrong Statistics: Tiger Woods Logic: According to Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, everyone has their own opinions and point of views. Thus, who they choose as their role model should not matter to others. E. Refutation of Opposition Premise According to the American Heritage New Dictionary, role models are defined as person(s) who â€Å"serve as an example of the values, attitudes, and behaviors associated with a role† such as a doctor, teacher or firefighter etc. Athletes do not benefit others as much as these samaritan-like jobs thus should not be considered role models. IV. A. 3rd minor proposition/premise Many other careers are overlooked and poorly paid due to the fans’ contributions to athletes’ salries. B. Evidence: Expert Testimony: Jeffrey Guerrero Philosophical Theory: Sara Murray (Supply/Demand) Historical Examples: Mother Teresa Statistics: Tenzin Gyatso Logic: People who serve and actually benefit others as careers get paid merely pennies compared to athletes. C. Opposition of 3rd minor proposition/premise It is the fans who contribute to these athletes’ salaries by paying hundreds for tickets and/or fan merchandise. D. Evidence Expert Testimony: Emma Riley Sutton Philosophical Theory: Stockholm Syndrome Historical Examples: Michael Jordan Statistics: Pope John Logic: Fans willingly pay large amount of money to watch and support these athletes. It is plainly for self-pleasure of the fans. E. Refutation of Opposition Premise Professional athletes do not help humankind nor do they save lives. Their actions in their careers are not as heroic. V. Conclusion Professional athletes should be paid at a negotiable rate even with fans’ contributions. However, when their salaries reach millions of dollars or even billions, it is quite bizarre for a human to be paid that much for performing a unique talent. Other Samaritan careers should be paid higher for helping humankind and/or saving actual lives, and these people are the true role models of society.
